Our experience at the Mobile World Congress

Networks, devices, connectivity infrastructures, applications, accessories, mobile photography… the world is increasingly mobile! And we were able to confirm this at the 2017 Mobile World Congress that was held in Barcelona from 27 February to 2 March: the most important mobile telecommunications event in the world, which has been held since 2006.

As part of this event, the organiser, GSMA (whose members include major mobile operators and many other companies from the sector, including LINK Mobility), presented a major report entitled “Mobile Economy 2017” showing that, for example, the number of unique mobile subscribers will exceed 5 billion by mid-2017 and will reach 5.7 billion by the end of the decade, when almost 75% of the world’s population will be subscribed to a mobile service. Along with a lot of other revealing information, this report also highlighted the development of broadband networks, announcing the arrival of 5G by 2019.

So the team from LINK Mobility attended the congress with great anticipation and our expectations were exceeded.

Technological showcase and business opportunities

Obviously, mobile telephones, in all of their forms, were the main focus of the event. Stunning devices like the “fastest mobile in the world”, the mobile photography of the future, projectors that turn any surface into a touchscreen, fancy fast battery chargers, attractive mobile payment options so you can forget about physical money and credit cards, LED cases… these are just a few examples of the long list of innovations and gadgets that we were able to see.

Fifth-generation mobile technology (5G) and the cloud were also prominent themes at the congress.

But the Mobile World Congress also enticed us in other areas, for example electric cars that can now drive themselves and the fast-developing world of virtual reality.

In short, a first-rate technological showcase where we couldn’t help but marvel at the dizzying future that awaits us.

And, of course, as well as all of this we mustn’t forget the countless global business opportunities that this event opened up to us (we had 50 meetings in just 3 days!). This meant that we were able to meet up with colleagues from across the world, from South Africans to Canadians, Australians to Argentinians; to see how the global SMS and email market works and open doors to potential new businesses.

Our Mobile World Congress was intense, but also rewarding and productive. See you next year!
